PSA to whoever made shaving a social norm: I hate you.
Not only do you waste more water in the shower, it’s also just really freakin’ annoying. And expensive. Hello, those razors and refills could be a week’s worth of coffee. Yet with summer in full-swing, I wanted to bestow my wisdom on you all and prevent you from picking up that razor more than you need to. Here are a few of my shaving hacks:
1. Get a Badger Brush.
Never heard of it? Well, it’ll soon be your best friend. You may associate this more with men at the barber shop, but these brushes help to rub in your shaving cream and exfoliate, ultimately giving you a smoother shave.
Speaking of exfoliate, those little hairs get trapped under dead skin cells. Exfoliating helps with removing the natural oil your skin produces, so you can get an even closer shave. I like to use a scrub or bath glove.
3. Pick the right razor.
FYI: Those Bic razors with one blade are probably not your best option. Sure they’re cheaper initially, but you’ll have to replace them so often, it’s not worth it in the long run.
4. Use lotion with soy.
Studies show that soy can help shrink the hair follicles and inhibit growth. Plus you should be moisturizing every day anyway. I know it’s an extra step post shower, but trust me, when you’re skin is super smooth in a few days, you’ll be thanking me.
5. Don’t eat like sh*t.
Eating healthy is important for a lot of reasons, but would you believe me if I told you that excess body hair could be a result of what you’re eating? Well it’s true. Increase your intake of vitamin B6 by eating more fish, bananas, broccoli, carrots, watermelon, meat and cabbage. Also, lay off the pasta and refined carbs. You’ve probably been told that for years, but everyone’s been telling you for a reason.
6. Use a new razor every time you shave (LOL).
Okay so maybe this one is totally unrealistic, but it makes sense. Maybe you can give this a try in the winter when you’re legs aren’t as exposed!
Within a week, you’ll be feeling hairless and fabulous.
