Wednesday Workout: To Tan Or Tone? Why Not Both!

August is almost upon us and with it, the realization that summer is almost over. Do not fear – there is still plenty of time to throw on the swimsuit, grab the sun block (for our fairer-skinned readers), and hit the beach, like I am sure many of you have already been doing. If not, there is no time like the present and no place like the beach. With warm smooth sand on your toes, cool refreshing breeze on your cheeks, and the warm radiating sun caressing your skin. Who doesn’t want that?
Some beach goers take full advantage of the water, swimming laps, surfing, paddle boarding and boogie boarding. Others prefer the sand, staying active with activities such as beach volleyball, soccer, and running. Yet I think it is safe to assume that the majority of us lie down on a blanket or chair (book optional) and take in the sun and beautiful weather, with the occasional dip in the water to cool off; and what is wrong with that? The answer, nothing, nothing at all.
Yet if you find while sitting up at the beach (most likely looking out for that one sexy life guard to make another round..GRRAL), that you have been neglecting your toned tummy, the one you had worked so hard to get, well than you are in luck! With these five awesome Ab exercises, you can both have your cake and eat it too, or in this case, have your tan, and keep your tone too.

Whether you are an exercise enthusiast or just trying to keep you tummy looking good while on the beach, these five moves are both simple and will give you the burn your looking for (just hopefully not a sunburn). Each exercise can be done at either a fast or slow pace, as well as for either a set time (doing as many as you can for 30sec-1min) or for a desired number (such as 3 sets of 15 repetitions). Modify these, depending on your fitness level, and remember to breath throughout these exercises; I cannot emphasize this enough, do not hold your breath! So get out there, meet August with a smile, and make the most of the summer sun.
