Unless you’ve been living under a rock, don’t care much about makeup, aren’t into beauty videos on YouTube (they’re pretty addictive) or haven’t been to your local Sephora in a while, you’ve definitely heard of Champagne Pop.
For those of you who haven’t, here’s a quick rundown: Jaclyn Hill is a super popular YouTube star and makeup artist who loves a good highlighter. She especially loves the incredibly well-received Shimmering Skin Perfector line from BECCA Cosmetics – and she was lucky enough to team up with the brand to release a brand new, limited-edition shade of their famed powder highlighter and, not surprisingly, beauty lovers everywhere are flipping out over it.
This product is one of those things you’ll want to grab impulsively – after all, it is a limited-edition release and products are flying off the shelves fast. In fact, Champagne Pop is probably sold out at your local Sephora. But since it is available online, I thought I would share a quick review of the product in case you’re looking to buy it – so let’s get into it, shall we?

My first impression: I’ve actually tried another shade of highlighter from this line, so I was familiar with the formula. All the fabulous things you’ve heard about BECCA’s products are true. This powder is so soft, almost buttery. The quality is obviously way up there, and this stuff is so pigmented that it will likely last a long, long time. All this makes the high price tag ($38) seem worth it. On the flipside, this is not the most subtle option on the market – at all. You have to apply this highlighter very carefully and with a decent amount of skill. If you don’t, you run the risk of looking like a disco ball. That’s my main gripe with this product: it’s just not the most wearable highlight in the world. The color is a really pretty shimmery champagne and true to its claims, I do think it will look good on most skintones.
The Pros:
- This product’s texture is gorgeous, creamy and so soft.
- The formula is very finely milled, so even though it’s sparkly, there are no big chunks of glitter.
- The color is really lovely and universal.
- A little bit goes a long way.
- When applied properly, this stuff gives a gorgeous, sun-kissed glow.
- The staying power is good.
The Cons:
- This is by no means a fool-proof product. You need to know how to use highlighter before picking this up.
- Application can look a bit patchy and uneven.
- The color, while beautiful, is not completely unlike anything else on the market. Check out the hashtag #ChampagnePop on Instagram to see how it looks on the skin and see the photo of Jaclyn Hill rocking it above.
- The price is steep.
- The product can make your skin’s imperfections look more obvious.
Should you buy this? Yes. Unless you own a few highlighters already – this won’t offer anything all that different, especially if you compare it to other high-end, high-quality products. If you already own one of BECCA’s products, you definitely don’t need this (but I can totally understand wanting it.) You can always return it to Sephora if it doesn’t work for you – but if you’ve had a bit of practice with applying highlighter, are on the market for a high-quality new universal shade and don’t mind spending a bit more, I think this product could become a favorite in your makeup bag.
