Attention, everyone. Apparently, you can’t use LOL anymore. It’s dead and you’re not cool if you use it. Well, on Facebook, anyways. Scientists have recently done a study with Facebook users and just 1.9% of users are using LOL on the site, meaning the once popular acronym is just about over.
The scientists found out about this through their initial study of how people are communicating laughter and saw that most people preferred typing “ha ha.” One third of people just expressed laughter through emojis and a small portion of people just went “he he.”
The majority of people that still use “LOL” are between their late 20s to late 30s. While emoji users are between their late teens to early 30s, which is really not that big of a shock.
I feel extremely old now. I happen to be in the part of the small percentage that still uses “LOL” so I guess I’m pretty lame. Not shocked over how many people are using emojis now, but I’m more shocked over how little people are using “LOL”…I’m constantly texting my friends and sometimes that’s all we use. Meh, whatever.
R.I.P. LOL. CUL8TR!
