There's A Caitlyn Jenner Halloween Costume & People Are Rightfully Outraged

Every year there’s a Halloween costume on the market that sparks outrage, but this one tops the charts. Spirit Halloween has released a Caitlyn Jenner costume, inspired by the now-iconic Vanity Fair cover, called the “Call Me Caitlyn.” The photograph of the costume features a man in a wig, padded top, shorts, and sash. Needless to say, people are not fans of the outfit that seems to mock transgender people.
There’s already a Change.org petition with several thousand signatures asking for the costume to be removed. The petition’s creator, Addison Vincent writes,

To make a costume out of a marginalized identity reduces that person and community to a stereotype for privileged people to abuse. In this case, if you follow through with production of a Caitlyn Jenner costume, cisgender people will purchase it to make fun of her and our community.

Can we not?
Supporters of the transgender community took to Twitter to express their disgust with the costume.

Spirit Halloween defended its sale, acting as if it’s like every other celebrity costume. Lisa Barr, senior director of marking at Spirit Halloween told CNBC they don’t plan on removing it from stores.

At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes. We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that.

Here’s what to do: Sign the Change.org petition, do not buy your Halloween costume at Spirit Halloween this year, and let anyone wearing that costume know that you don’t think someone living as her true self is very funny. No candy for you.
