One of the biggest news stories of 2015 was Rachel Dolezal, the former NAACP president who was forced to resign after her parents said she was a white person pretending to be black. Dolezal faced tons of backlash, but in a new interview with Vanity Fair, Rihanna is defending her.
“I think she was a bit of a hero, because she kind of flipped on society a little bit,” said Rihanna in the magazine November cover story.
“Is it such a horrible thing that she pretended to be black? Black is a great thing, and I think she legit changed people’s perspective a bit and woke people up,” she said.
No one ever said being black wasn’t a great thing, but let’s not call Rachel Dolezal a “hero” for being delusional about her identity and tricking others into believing she was black. Dolezal has maintained that she identifies as a black person.
