Lately, there has been a wave of people (cough, Instagram models) speaking out against social media, and rejecting it all together because of how “fake” it is. While this sends a powerful, positive and often necessary message and reminder to people, it is also, well, kind of obvious.
I mean, it’s social media. We all know we use filters on our photos, and spend more time than we would like to admit editing them to maximize their “like” potential. Most of us have the same thought process before, during and after posting a picture. Like, will it get enough likes? Should I delete it? So on and so forth.
There’s no denying this generation’s obsession with social media and technology has the potential to hinder our priorities. Do we spend too much time worried about how many “likes” we’re getting, and not enough time living and enjoying the moment we’re in? Probably.
Obviously, we wouldn’t spend so much time posting to and scrolling through our social media accounts if we didn’t actually want to know what other people were up to, and, similarly, to show off what we ourselves are up to—to put our lives on display—even if it is a slightly edited and exaggerated version.
So, with that being said, there’s no shame in trying to up your Instagram game. After all, if you’re going to do it at all, you might as well try to give it your best, right?
Here are some simple ways you can improve your pics and convince people you’re artsy on Instagram.
