Cozying Up For Winter In The City With Kohl's Madden Girl Outerwear

As someone who grew up three miles from the beaches of the Jersey Shore, it’s safe to say that I’m a summer girl at heart. When I experienced my first winter in New York City last year, it was a rude awakening. The way the wind gusts between the buildings makes a chilly day seem like a frozen Hell – whoever imagined Hell as full of flames has obviously never been to the Northeast, where the hats and gloves come on in November and don’t come off until February.
However, there are far too many fun winter activities happening in the city to hibernate during the cold months. Even though the weather has been cooperating so far this year, I made sure to have the cutest products by Madden Girl at Kohl’s to keep me cozy all winter long.
The holidays are already in full swing in midtown. Despite my personal rule to never listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving, I headed down Fifth Avenue to check out some of the holiday decorations before the crowds that huddle around the store window displays all December long. I could have hailed a cab and taken in the scenery, but with my comfy boots, I could walk for miles and take in the sights up close.

I passed Bryant Park and saw their free ice rink was practically empty – a rare sight considering numerous tourists make it almost impossible to skate without bumping into a stranger near the holidays. While I do love that people get to experience Christmas in the city, I couldn’t miss an opportunity to actually get some skating in. I texted a friend who was down to meet me for a skating session.
While I waited for my friend to make her way down, I grabbed some tea and took in some excellent people watching at Bryant Park. Seriously, you can never get bored in NYC if you just grab a drink and look around. There were holiday pop-up shops set up while tourists eagerly snapped photos of the Empire State Building to the south, and I’m happy that my (slightly creepy) people watching hobby won’t be put on hold with my jacket to keep me warm.

When my friend arrived, we laced up our rental skates and hit the ice. It took a few go-arounds to get the hang of it again, but my Dutch blood kicked in, and I’m happy to report that I didn’t fall…just don’t challenge me to any speed skating competitions. Getting a good skate sesh in definitely made me dread the cold less. Maybe even slightly excited, but I don’t want to go overboard.

Not quite ready to leave the fresh air for my apartment yet, I stopped outside the New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue to rest my feet. It’s amazing how New Yorkers pass these landmarks every day without a second glance, but that’s the lifestyle: go go go. Getting to play tourist for an afternoon is definitely something I need to make time for once in a while, and this outerwear will work roaming around the city or on weekend getaways at the ski mountain.
Bring on the winter!
