Kristin Cavallari’s brother, Michael has been found dead after an extensive search that began the day after Thanksgiving.
His 2014 Honda Civic went missing on November 27 and was later found abandoned off the side of I-70 in Utah, according to a press release shared by Grand County Sheriffs Office. Today, authorities now confirm the news the reality star was hoping not to hear: His body has been found.
“We want to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers during this very difficult time,” Kristin Cavallari said in a statement to E! News. “We have just been informed by the authorities my brother’s body has been found. This is a very painful time and we are still processing it all. We kindly ask everyone please respect our privacy during our time of grieving.”
Before this statement, the former Hills star and fashion designer, who welcomed her third child with husband Jay Cutler in late November, had kept quiet on the matter. She did, however, post a photo on Instagram when he was missing.
Michael, 30, had a troubled past, according to a source close to the family, and it was reported that he was arrested on Nov. 23 and briefly held in an Orange County Jail. Yet despite his legal issues, the siblings had a close relationship.
“She’s always been protective of him and tried to help him however she could,” an insider said.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Kristin and the entire Cavallari family during this difficult time.
