Vera Montes of El Paso just made #GrandmaGoals a thing.
The runner recently ran in the Beer Mile World Championships after her daughter suggested they participate. Montes hesitated to agree…because she prefers scotch to beer.
She finished her mile run as well as four beers in 20 minutes and 24 seconds. Not only was Montes was the race’s oldest finisher, but the grandmother of three actually beat her daughter by over a minute.
“I’m not a big beer drinker,” Montes told the El Paso Times. “I like beer when the weather is real hot and there’s nothing else to drink. I’m really a scotch drinker, Chivas if it’s available. If it was scotch we were drinking instead of beer, I would have run a lot faster.”
Hmm…maybe we need to start drinking scotch.
According to Montes’s daughter Renee Reynolds, 47, “I can beat her on the running part, but not the beer drinking part.”
Montes is already thinking about improving her time for next year’s race. She already runs three miles four times a week, but maybe they’ll let her substitute beer for scotch. After 81 years, she deserves some perks.
And your parents told you drinking every weekend would hurt your health! Vera is our new inspiration.
