Holy ’90s nostalgia! The Spice Girls could be reuniting for their 20th anniversary in 2016.
“I think I’m the one putting all the rumors out there,” Mel B. (perhaps better known as Scary Spice) said on Alan Carr’s New Year’s Special on Sunday. “To be serious, it is our twentieth anniversary this year and it would be rude not to celebrate so hopefully something will be happening pretty soon.”
Mel B. also hinted a reunion to Meredith Vieira back in September saying, “There’s nothing to really spill because nothing has been announced, nothing’s official. I mean, yes, we are in talks because it’s our 20th anniversary. And I want something to happen. I’m forcing them a little bit, but yeah. I’ve been saying it for five years, ‘We are reuniting. We are, aren’t we?’”
The popular girl group from England dominated the pop scene in the late 90’s and early 2000’s with hit singles such as “Wannabe.” “Say You’ll Be There,” and “Viva Forever.” The group also starred in the campy movie Spice World in 1997.
Although rumors have been going around for years about a reunion, the group has remained quiet about it.
However, it was reported last week that Melanie C (Sporty Spice) would refuse to take part if Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) would not participate. This is the one time Sporty Spice will allegedly only perform if everything is perfect. “This means good management, good tour promoters and good sponsorship to maximize revenue,” a source told The Sun. “To fulfill this Mel believes the band has to be the original five-piece and Victoria needs to be involved.”
The last time the Spice Girls performed together was at the closing ceremony of the Summer Olympics in London in 2012. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope the girl group will give us what we really, really want.
