Jaden Smith has always been quite the character of the celebrity world. I mean, have you looked at his Twitter feed recently? He’s a man of “philosophical” thought and a man with a killer fashion taste. It all probably explains how he landed such a massive gig with the French fashion house, Louis Vuitton.
Earlier this week, Nicolas Ghesquiere, the artistic director for Louis Vuitton’s women’s collection, posted a photo to Instagram of the 17-year-old actor with the caption, “Happy to introduce Jaden Smith @christianingrey in the new SS16 @louisvuitton ad Campaign photographed by Bruce Weber.”
This announcement shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone as Smith had been seen wearing a dress in public and even chose to wear a dress to Amandla Stenberg’s prom.
Jaden Smith was named one of GQ‘s Most Stylish Men alive in 2015. And, even more interestingly, this is not the first time a man has been featured as the face of Louis Vuitton’s womenswear campaign according to Cosmopolitan.
Frankly, there’s no more perfect person for the position than Smith. The actor has always challenged conventional gender norms with his androgynous style.
This fashion campaign is certainly going to destroy what is currently considered “masculine” and “feminine” to wear in fashion and it’s about time. We need to let people express themselves the way they want to through their clothes. A dress or tuxedo doesn’t have a gender – it’s just fabric. Wear what you want, people!
