Oscars 2016: So What Was That Whole Stacey Dash Thing About?

If you’re wondering what that Stacey Dash moment at the Oscars was all about, you weren’t alone.

The 49-year-old actress most famous for her role in 1995’s Clueless previously slammed celebrities who were boycotting the Oscars over the #OscarsSoWhite controversy and then said that Black History Month should be taken away. She also said BET should be done away with.

In a surprise moment, host Chris Rock welcomed Stacey to the stage by introducing her as the “director of our new minority outreach program.”

Stacey emerged from the wings, let out a laugh, and said, “I cannot wait to help my people out. Happy Black History Month!”

Um, what?

Watch the awkward moment again below.

Don’t worry. Chrissy Teigen think it was that funny either.

According to Mashable, Dash has already explained her appearance.

Dash wrote a post on Patheos.com on her appearance at the Oscars. She didn’t take back anything she had previously said, she just wanted to let everyone know she had that sense of humor.

“When they added me to increase the diversity, I’m sure many black people rolled their eyes,” Dash wrote. “I’m the actress from the South Bronx who has always dreamed of winning an Oscar. But God has a great sense of humor and this is my first encounter with one of my dreams of destiny. Bringing diversity to Hollywood… not merely because of color, but politics as well.”

On the plus side, Stacey looked great!
