Racist Texas A&M Student Who Made Fun Of Black High Schoolers Has Now Left The School

I find myself saying this time and time again: you attend college to broaden your mind and move away from ignorant, hateful thoughts. How is it still possible that in this day and age, racism is still vigorously alive?

My opinions aside, the Texas A&M University student that was suspected of taunting a group of visiting high school students from the Uplift Hampton Preparatory charter school in Dallas, Texas, with racial slurs last month has left campus, according to the school.

It was reported by Fox 4 News in February that one student from Texas A&M University flashed her Confederate flag earrings while other White students shouted, “go back from where you came from” when the high school students visited the university’s campus.

On Wednesday, the university announced that its investigation was complete.

University President, Michael Young said in a statement, “One of the many students interviewed is no longer associated with Texas A&M.,” according to Reuters.

No charges will be filed by the school, although Young described the incident as heartbreaking and intolerable. The school was unable to release details on the student who left campus due to privacy laws, according to KHOU News.

Young called for increased respect for diversity on campus – including mandatory diversity seminars for all students. In another statement, Young said:

“As a leading institution of high education, we are the vanguard in affecting positive change on the attitudes and actions of future generations…We are called upon to lead our communities and make a difference because the consequences of such acts are intolerable. This change is essential in our ability to thrive and grow as our world diversifies.”

University statistics show that Texas A&M is only 4 percent Black.

I take particular issue that there were multiple students shouting racial slurs at these high school students and only one Texas A&M student has left the campus. You can make all the flowery statements you want to promote and support diversity on campus, but until all of those racist students are removed from the Texas A&M campus, I’ll be unimpressed.

Besides, how awful of a human being do you have to be to wear Confederate flag earrings? Do you enjoy telling the world that you regularly celebrate racism and hate?
