You dated for over a year and now have a box of crap you simply don’t know what to do with it. Sure, some of it’s cute – definitely keeping those earrings – but most of it you could do without. Yet for some reason, despite how much of an ass he was towards the end, you feel guilty throwing it away.
Thankfully, the Museum of Broken Relationships was founded, and you can donate your stuff for all the world to see. Yup, even that cheese maker he got you for Christmas for reasons you’re still unsure of.
The museum itself is nothing new. In fact, film producer Olinka Vištica and sculptor Drazen Grubišic from Croatia founded it back in 2006 after their own four-year relationship went sour. Since then, the Museum of Broken Relationships embarked on a world tour that attracted more than 200,000 visitors in 12 countries. In 2010, it opened a permanent location in Zagreb.
Yet now, thanks to a lawyer who came across one of the museums while on vacation, thought there needed to be one in Los Angeles. John B. Quinn, a founding partner of Los Angeles law firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, hired arts consultant and dealer Alexis Hyde as his museum director and together are going full-steam ahead in the City of Angels.
So if you just got dumped (or haven’t gotten around to throwing sh*t out), get donating. New “artifacts” are always welcome.
