People Are Pissed About This McDonald’s Ad Showing A Gay Son Coming Out To His Dad

Taiwan is currently boycotting McDonald’s after a new McCafé ad was released showing a gay son coming out to his father.

In the touching and emotional scene, the young man writes “I like boys” on the side of a McCafé cup. Initially, his father leaves the table, but when he returns, he writes a message above what his son wrote saying, “I accept that you like boys.”

It’s a rare but progressive move for a fast food chain in Asia, yet unfortunately, people are not taking to it very well. What’s surprising, however, is that Taiwan is one of the most supportive Asian countries in regards to LGBT rights. Although same-sex marriage is not yet legal in Taiwan, a recent poll showed 71 percent of the country’s residents support it.

Yet even those in the United States are less than thrilled. Here’s just one example:

Chang Shou-yi, the secretary general of the Alliance of Taiwan Religious Groups for the Protection of Family, said “Because McDonald’s is frequented by many children, it is especially important to oppose the promotion of same-sex behavior.”

The group “rebukes and boycotts all enterprises that are polluting the next generation.”

Seriously?!

Currently, the 90-second ad currently has over 1.5 million views on YouTube with 6,511 likes and 278 dislikes.
