When Netflix announced it was reviving everyone’s favorite mother/daughter dramedy, Gilmore Girls, the whole world celebrated.
Except for one person: Gilmore Girls alum, Mellisa McCarthy.
At the time of the announcement, McCarthy’s name was noticeably missing from the list of returning cast members. A fan inquired the actress about it on Twitter and McCarthy sharply responded. You can view McCarthy’s tweet below.
Thanks for the invite, but sadly no one asked me or Sookie to come back to Stars Hollow. Wish them all the best!! https://t.co/II2Atug4wx

That was all the universe had about her Gilmore Girls absence from the Netflix reboot – until now. McCarthy explained she was missing from the list in an interview to E!. She said, “I didn’t actually get asked to do it. But I think they thought I was busy, and then by the time it did come up, then I actually was.”
Despite her snarky response on Twitter, this doesn’t mean that McCarthy isn’t supporting the Netflix reboot of the beloved show. She added, “I’m actually thrilled that it’s happening. I loved that show, and I think the fans for that show are super loyal and great and I will watch every single one of them.”
E! asked if McCarthy would consider returning to Gilmore Girls if the show was to last for more than one season. McCarthy responded, “I want to cook again. I want to put salt and then stir. That was seven years of my life and it was really great. I was proud of that show.”
You can all breathe easy now. There is no bad blood between the Gilmore Girls cast and McCarthy (phew!). Now all we have to do is beg Netflix for another season in order to have Sookie return to Stars Hollow.
