Nowadays I do everything from happy hour to walks on the boardwalk with my parents. In middle school, that wasn’t the case. I didn’t even want to go to a movie with my mom out of fear someone would see me and assume I had no friends to hang with. I don’t think I even spoke to my parents in public from age 12 until 16.
I can totally relate to Beth.
Unfortunately for her, Beth’s parents decided to drop by her ninth grade school dance. Although she asked mom and dad not to chaperone, they thought it would be perfectly chill to stop by to see how things were going mid-event.
Fortunately for us, dad recorded her reaction.

Someday you’re going to hang out with your parents and call them your best friends, Beth. That day is not today, but trust me. It will come.
