I’m not sure what sent Instagrammers into straight-up panic mode overnight, but my feed was suddenly flooded with some version of, “Turn on notifications to continue seeing my posts!!!!!!!!” You might’ve seen this too, unless you haven’t been on Instagram in a while (lol, yeah right).

On March 15, Instagram announced that it will be changing its algorithm to highlight posts they think people want to see, rather than in chronological order.
Apparently, this was enough to cause people to lose their damn minds overnight. You would think some zombie apocalypse was taking over the world the way people were reacting. People were legit BEGGING their followers to receive notifications when they post a photo.
The things people do to make sure they get 11 likes on their latte photo, amiright?
Even Miss New York, Jamie Lynn Macchia got in on the hype. She said, “Instagram has lost its mind. You now have to turn on ‘post notifications’ before tomorrow if you would like to continue following my journey. Don’t miss out.”

Unfortunately, she got a few things wrong here. People are freaking out, not Instagram, and no where does it say you need to turn on your notifications before tomorrow. TBH, I can’t think of anything more annoying than getting notified every time someone posted a photo. But I digress.
Instagram has responded since Instagate broke out.
“We’re listening and we assure you nothing is changing with your feed right now. We promise to let you know when changes roll out broadly,” Instagram said in a tweet.
Word to the wise? Please STAHP.

So there you have it. If you were one of the gullible ‘grammers who gave in to this nonsense, go ahead and delete that “turn on notifications” post you so shamelessly uploaded.
