When you sit around with your girlfriends and dish on your weekend hookup, the topic of length might come up. No, I’m not talking about length of that (although that may be part of the convo too) – I mean duration. You kind of giggle when you hear the big stud on campus can’t last more than 30 seconds, you wow at the girl who swears they went for close to an hour. It’s just gossip, but it makes you think – what’s normal?
Thanks to researchers at the University of Queensland, we now have an answer.
Dr. Brendan Zietsch and his team had 500 couples time their bedroom fun, from the second of penetration to when the deed was done, so foreplay and cuddling after weren’t included in the study. The couples self-recorded the times with a stopwatch.
Results ranged between 33 seconds and 44 minutes, but the average time was approximately 5.4 minutes.
“You may note [the experiment] could affect the mood somewhat, and might perhaps not exactly reflect the natural flow of things,” Dr. Zietsch said. “But science is rarely perfect, and this is the best we’ve got.”
Whether your personal experiences last longer, shorter, or are right in line with the average doesn’t really matter…much as long as you’re enjoying it.
