How To Rock A Pregnancy Like A Victoria’s Secret Angel

When your job is your body, having a baby isn’t an excuse to let yourself go. Just ask the Victoria’s Secret models who rocked the runway after becoming mothers like Heidi Klum, Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, and more.

Now more VS ladies are joining the mommy club – Chrissy Teigen just welcomed her little girl while Candice Swanepoel and Behati Prinsloo are both expecting bundles of joy from the stork.

There’s no doubt that Candice and Behati will be back on the runway in no time, but just how do they keep their bodies in top shape while literally growing a new life inside their (super tight) bellies? Elite Daily spoke to Leandro Carvalho, the trainer who made sure Alessandra Ambrosio was ready to put her wings back on soon after welcoming her son, about how the models stay bikini ready before, during, and after their pregnancies.

Before:

The easiest way to bounce back from having a baby? Be prepared. Leandro told Elite Daily that the ladies make sure they are at their ideal weight before a baby is on board.

“By starting the pregnancy at a desired weight (or even a few pounds lighter) with healthier eating habits and continuing this routine through pregnancy, getting back to that pre-baby body after delivery will be much easier,” he says.

During:

It’s important for the models to stay active throughout their pregnancy. At first, they can do pretty normal workouts.

“The first four to six weeks of training consist of pure cardio involving dance, swimming and cardio sculpt,” Leandro reveals. “After six weeks of cardio, the fitness routine should change to interval training: 20 minutes of cardio, followed by muscle work of 16 to 20 reps light weightlifting, then switching back and forth between cardio and weightlifting for the duration of the workout.”

During the second trimester, exercise is a bit tougher due to the growing baby bump. Leandro recommends to continue with low-impact water exercises to keep mom and baby moving.

Let’s not forget about diet either.

“I wouldn’t recommend restricting calories because doing so can affect the quality and quantity of milk production, which is critical to the baby’s health,” he says. Instead of consuming small amounts of food, Alessandra just made smart decisions about what went into her body. Leandro made sure Alessandra was getting lots of veggies, white protein, and healthy carbs in her diet while expecting.

After:

I imagine most new moms aren’t too excited to jump back into a swimsuit without some gym time, but they should take it easy at first. Leandro recommends walking at first then water exercises.

“Alessandra, for example, had many limitations after undergoing a C-section during childbirth: no jumping, running, sit-ups or squats. This is an instance when water classes are a must!”

Moms should slowly work their way back to their pre-baby workout routines, then presumably they’ll be runway ready! Right?
