Carrie Underwood had a baby a little over a year ago, and she still has one of the best bodies in Hollywood. Those long legs, toned arms, awesome abs…you know what we’re talking about. But don’t think that the American Idol winner looks like that from sitting around eating ice cream and pizza. Carrie’s longtime trainer Erin Oprea is sharing the star’s diet secrets, and they’re actually not that impossible to follow.
While many stars are on strict juice cleanses and vegan diets, Erin says Carrie follows four simple rules to keep her amazing physique. It’s not even a “diet,” per say, meaning you don’ t have to fear reading further.
1. No Starches At Night
Carbs are totally okay and give you energy to get through the day, but the problem is that you’re not burning as many calories at night so they become stored as fat. Instead, keep it to healthy carbs like brown rice and whole grain bread and cut off your carb intake around 3 or 4 p.m.
2. Decrease Your Sugar Intake
While natural sugar from fruit is okay, added sugar is not. Erin says to look at the nutrition labels and don’t put anything with more than 5 g per serving in your mouth.
3. Cut Back On Sodium
This is tougher than it sounds – everything from cheese to bread has high levels of salt. Check out the nutritional values of the food on the package and keep your sodium levels under 2,000 mg per day, Erin says. Fruits, veggies, and meats like chicken have low sodium levels.
4. Put Down The Alcohol
Yes, you know this. Yes, it’s hard to accept and practice. But Erin isn’t telling you to give up your wine nights completely. She recommends stinking to two or three drinks per week since alcohol is completely empty calories. If two or three sounds crazy, just cut back – maybe skip that beer when you get out of class in favor of keeping drinking to social events.
