Netflix Has Been Studying Our Binge-Watching Habits, And They’re Predictable AF

What can’t Netflix do?

Apparently, Netflix has been studying how long it takes us to finish a season of a show. Not-so-surprisingly, people who start watching a show on Netflix tend to finish a season in a week. Some of us can even finish a season in a few days. In fact, many of us are guilty of watching two or more hours of a show per day.

The vice president of original content at Netflix, Cindy Holland states, “After three years of studying original series releases and nine years of streaming over all, we can now identify some patterns, finally.”

Netflix has found that the time it takes to finish a season of a show depends on the genre of the show. Horror and thriller and completed at a much faster rate than political dramas or comedies. For a full description of the different types of binge-watchers, check out this article from The New York Times.

Some cable companies argue that Netflix is no competition to their weekly scheduled shows since it keeps the viewers more invested, but we’re not so convinced. Netflix has the advantage of keeping viewers invested more so than cable since all of the seasons are released at the same time. Sorry cable, looks like you’re on the way out.
