‘The Voice’ Singer Christina Grimmie Shot Dead At Orlando Concert

YouTube star and The Voice contestant, Christina Grimmie, was shot by a man inside The Plaza LIVE in Orlando Friday night, according to the police.

Shortly after 3 a.m. on Saturday, Orlando Police announced that Grimmie had died from her injuries.

“With deep regret, Christina Grimmie has succumbed to her injuries,” Orlando Police Sgt. Wanda Miglio said. “We know there are many questions and we will do our best to answer them as the investigations unfolds.”

Heather Weiss, her publicist, issued a statement to WFTV, which confirmed the news. She said:

“It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord. She was shot at her show in Orlando and, unfortunately, didn’t survive the gunshot wounds. We ask at this time that you respect the privacy of her family and friends in their time of mourning.”

Orlando Police reported that the gunman is dead.

Fans reported hearing at least six gunshots inside the venue, which was slated to host the pop-rock band, Before You Exit” and Grimmie.

The police said that the shooter was armed with two guns when he opened fire. Grimmie was signing autographs for fans at the time.

Grimmie’s brother was able to tackle the shooter, who then shot himself. No other suspects were sought.

Grimmie participated in the sixth season of the singing competition, The Voice and finished in third place. She first gained a following through YouTube. Her YouTube channel has more than 11,000 followers.
