People Who Instagram Often Enjoy Life More, According To Science

The next time someone rolls their eyes at you taking a picture of your pancakes, roll your eyes back at them. According to a new study, you’re enjoying life more than your non-Instagramming friend, so ultimately, you have the last laugh.

A group of three researchers conducted a series of nine experiments that measured how happy people were while doing various activities without using their phones. Turns out, those who were phoneless didn’t enjoy their time as much as those who documented their experience. Shocking? Hardly.

One of the researchers told TIME:

What we find is you actually look at the world slightly differently, because you’re looking for things you want to capture, that you may want to hang onto. That gets people more engaged in the experience, and they tend to enjoy it more.

Ya hear that mom?! The next time you tell me to put my phone down, I’m going to tell you you’re a buzzkill. After all, if you didn’t Instagram it, did it even happen?
