At last, a day is in sight where we may no longer have to wait for Orange Is The New Black to finish buffering or sit in long car rides without Netflix to watch because we don’t have wifi.
According to Teen Vogue, industry insiders have made statements that offline streaming for Netflix is most definitely being developed and could even be available before the end of 2016.
However Teen Vogue also reported that CEO Reed Hastings said that Netflix’s focus is mostly on streaming services, but that the company is not closed off to offline programs. While this isn’t a direct yes to offline viewing, it’s certainly a point in the right direction.
Lastly, there are difficulties that come with offline programing. While Netflix would have all the access to Netflix original show and movies, all the other options will be more difficult to secure. Netflix would have to get the licensing from the production studios for the other shows and films available.
However, even if Netflix can’t solidify every show and movie for offline viewing, it will still be a great day when we can all watch Orange is the New Black, Gilmore Girls and Fuller House anywhere we go.
