Chad Johnson proved multiple times that he’s this year’s villain on The Bachelorette. He’s universally hated by viewers, violent, short-tempered, and a sore loser. It’s easy to call him a douche bag, provide a list of reasons why, and move on. But his latest Instagram post proves he’s more than just a heartless SOB.
In a touching tribute to his mother who passed away from breast cancer, the 28-year-old from Tulsa, Oklahoma gets incredibly vulnerable. Prepare to tear up:

As Us Weekly reminds us, this isn’t the first time fans learned about Johnson’s mother and her illness. During his stint on The Bachelorette, Johnson told JoJo Fletcher that he hadn’t been in a serious relationship in a while, because he had been taking care of his dying mother. Considering how much viewers hated him, this random show of vulnerability could easily be dismissed as a manipulative way to gain JoJo’s affections. But based on his recent post, that clearly wasn’t the case.
