Swimmer Lilly King Calls Out Russian Competitor For Doping, Becomes America’s Hero

Lilly King is just your typical 19-year-old college student. She attends Indiana University, hangs out with friends… oh, and she’s swimming in the Rio Olympics.

Aside from her amazingly quick breaststroke, Lilly is making headlines for calling out Russian Yulia Efimova for doping. You see, Yulia, along with 117 other Russian athletes, were barred from the Games after the country was found to have taken part in a doping program during the winter Games in Sochi two years ago. However, Yulia was quietly reinstated and allowed to compete.

Yulia won her heat in the 100-m breaststroke, holding up her finger to symbolize her first place victory. Lilly was caught on video mocking the gesture from the athlete waiting area.

After Lilly got the fastest time in the event’s preliminaries, she confirmed the gesture was snuff to Yulia, telling NBC, “You’re shaking your finger No. 1, and you’ve been caught for drug cheating. I’m just not a fan.”

Lilly and Yulia will be facing off in the event’s finals Monday night, in lanes next to each other, no less.

Keep up the sass, Lilly. And kick her booty tonight.
