If you thought Britney Spears releasing new music was the highlight of your summer, think again. The former queen of pop will have a biopic on Lifetime next year, with Natasha Bassett (best known for her role in Hail, Caesar!) playing Spears.
According to Hollywood Reporter, the two-hour TV movie will follow Spears from her “I’m not a girl, not yet a woman” phase to her very public breakdown in 2007. It will also dive into her relationship and breakup with Justin Timberlake, the personal struggles she went through following her parents’ divorce and her marriage to the biggest douche of all time, Kevin Federline.
But despite all of the personal details of her life, Spears’ team insists she has no part in the upcoming production, nor does she want producers to go through with filming.
“Britney Spears will not be contributing in any way, shape or form to the Lifetime biopic nor does it have her blessing,” her management told TIME in an email Thursday.
Yikes. Well, hopefully she comes around — we wouldn’t want to be on her bad side. But either way, we’re thrilled this is happening. Appropriately titled Britney, the movie will be produced by Asylum Entertainment and Anne-Marie Hess will write the script with Leslie Libman. Production is slated for September 19 in Vancouver, with an anticipated 2017 premiere.
Is there anything better than sitting home, drinking a glass of wine and watching a this-is-so-bad-it’s-good Lifetime biopic? No. That’s what happiness looks like.
