Taylor Swift Could Make $1 Million From Just This One Song Alone

Although Taylor Swift didn’t drop any new music this year, she’s still cashing in a paycheck worth about $1 million. How, you may ask? It’s all thanks to the popularity of the song she co-wrote for now ex-boyfriend and DJ, Calvin Harris…helped by the publicity from their breakup drama.

Swift helped create the pop hit, “This Is What You Came For” before she and Harris broke it off, starting the summer feud of a lifetime. Though she wasn’t featured as a vocalist on the track, her contributions – under the name Nils Sjoberg – means that some of the profit goes to her. Swift also allegedly made the million-dollar deal with a music publishing company she reportedly owns a stake in. So not only is she a writer for the song, but she’s partial owner of its publishing rights, meaning Swift is raking in the cash off of this one song.

Of course, Swift’s and Harris’ breakup only fueled the fire. To say they had bad blood would be a huge understatement. It was in the dramatic aftermath of this bad blood that the truth about Swift’s involvement on the song came out, which made Harris look shadier than he intended. He responded positively on Twitter after the news circulated:

Although they have since reconciled, it seems that their summer heat – and not the good kind – actually ended up being more beneficial. As catchy as “This Is What You Came For” is, all the drama behind it certainly helped Swift in her earnings.
