After several days in intensive care, Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher has died. She was 60 years old.
“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” Simon Halls, a family spokesperson, said in a statement. “She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
The tragic news comes just a few days after Fisher went into cardiac arrest while flying from London to Los Angeles on Friday, December 23. Paramedics immediately removed her from the flight and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for a heart attack and later died.
Since news broke, an overwhelming amount of fans have come out on social media to express their condolences and pay tribute to the late Princess Leia.
