It’s no shock that a big reason why 2016 was such a bust was due in part to the presidential election. But in retrospect, we can’t help but wonder: is there anything that could have made that horrifying situation any better? President Obama says yes — if he ran.

On Monday’s Axe Files podcast, Obama announced that if he was eligible to run in the 2016 presidential election, he would have won instead of Donald Trump.

“I am confident in this vision because I’m confident that if I had run again and articulated it, I think I could’ve mobilized a majority of the American people to rally behind it,” he told listeners. “I know that in conversations that I’ve had with people around the country, even some people who disagreed with me, they would say the vision, the direction that you point toward is the right one.”

Of course, president-elect Donald Trump wholeheartedly disagreed with the sentiment.

“President Obama said that he thinks he would have won against me. He should say that but I saw NO WAY! – jobs leaving, ISIS, OCare, etc.”

The “etc.” says it all. If Barack Obama was in the 2016 presidential race against Donald Trump, would you have voted for him? Sound off in the comments below.
