‘Stranger Things’ Just Got Even Stranger

Fans of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things have been waiting for new information or a season two release date to cling to since they finished binge-watching way back in July.

Sadly, Netflix has yet to announce the release date for season two, there are some new juicy spoilers to keep fans happy.

New additions to the cast have been announced, including Sean Astin (aka Samwise Gamgee from Lord of the Rings). Astin is joining the Stranger Things family as Bob Newby, a new love interest for Joyce. Newby has a previous history with both Joyce and Officer Hopper since he (spoiler!) went to high school with the both of them.

Joining Astin as newbies are Paul Rise (Mad About You) and Linnea Berthelsen. Rise plays Dr. Owens, who turns out to be a  member of the Department of Energy who is there “on a ‘clean-up’ assignment, tasked with containing the events of last year.” Berthelsen plays a mother named Roman who is somehow connected to the lab even though she doesn’t live in town.

Grown-ups aren’t the only people who are now a part of the cast. Dacre Montgomery, the new Red Ranger in the PowerRangers movie, is playing Billy, the brother of another new character named Max. Max is a tom-boy who is being played by Sadie Sink, who you may recognize from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

On a Fan2Sea Comic Con cruise Stranger Things cast panel, a large spoiler was dropped by David Harbour, who fans know best as Officer Jim Hopper. “It’s a year later in the story, so there are several things that happened last year — like Will has come back — there are certain people in the town that know what happened, and then certain people that don’t know what happened,” Harbour told the audience.

Since it takes place a year into the future, the style is changing just a bit. It still the early ’80s, but costuming is a little bit different. According to the lead hairstylist Sarah Hindsgaul, you can expect to see a lot more perms and mullets.

Unfortunately, Harbour didn’t spill any more secrets and the rest of the cast seems to be keeping their mouths shut tight. It’s up to the fans to speculate what’s going to happen next. Who knows exactly what happened to the boys and Eleven? And who is still left in the dark? How does Dr. Owen plan on keeping everything a secret? Is Roman connected to Eleven somehow? Will they ever leggo her Eggos?

Hopefully, all of these questions and more will be answered soon. Until then, we can re-watch our favorite episodes and cry over Barb again (#JusticeForBarb).
