What is Galentine’s Day? For you and your girlfriends, it’s officially the best day of the year.
The holiday was made famous by Amy Poehler‘s character Leslie Knope on Parks & Recreation to finally celebrate our lady friends. Basically, it’s like Valentine’s Day, but instead of celebrating the love you have with your partner, you spend it celebrating with your best girlfriends. Leslie chooses to observe the day of lady love with brunch, but you can enjoy the day with your girlfriends however you desire. Because the episode aired in 2010, the holiday has grown to be as big of a deal as its Valentine’s Day counterpart. Girls rule and boys drool type of thing.
Galentine’s Day falls on February 13, the day before Valentine’s Day. It gives everyone, including the single ladies, a chance to celebrate. Sometimes we need to be reminded that we are not “forever alone” and our friends are here for us. Our friends don’t dump us out of nowhere or leave us crying in the middle of the streets either after celebrating holidays such as Valentine’s Day. The ladies can celebrate every year with no regrets.
Our friends are here for us when times get rough. They make those dreadful breakups better. They pull us out of our ruts, out of our beds and into the bars. They deserve a day of their own. Maybe Valentine’s Day is your thing and you can’t wait to get roses and chocolates next week, but that doesn’t mean you don’t need your best friends or a day to relax together. Well, here it is.
Let’s celebrate together this Galentine’s Day, February 13, and send our friends one of these epic Galentine’s cards or memes. And remember to tell your BFFs how much they mean to you this holiday. They deserve it. Cheers, ladies.
