Guys, you seriously have to check this out. This past Sunday, Twitter user @SHARPAYISAVICTIM created a lengthy thread about the movie High School Musical and why the peppy, blonde antagonist is actually the real victim in the story. It may sound a little weird, but it’s actually very well though out, and childhood be damned, it makes a lot of sense.
The entire thread is a little too long to post here, but you definitely need to read it!
A lot of the theory’s weight comes from the framing of certain actions and the general backstory of the characters. When you think about it logically, of course the siblings who dedicated their lives to theater and have a sincere passion for it would get defensive when the roles they’ve obviously been training for are being taken from them, by complete amateurs at that!
It also make the point of noting that Sharpay is seen as evil because she is pursuing something she’s enjoyed since she was young, while Troy and Gabriella have no idea what they’re doing, but still succeed because they’re popular. Once more for the people in the back: confidence and acknowledging your own talent is apparently bad.
The full thread is over 70 tweets long, so be sure to check it out when you have some time. At the moment it has over 100,000 likes and over 63,000 retweets, and those numbers are still going up!
