Who doesn’t love celebrating National Donut Day? The holiday is always celebrated on the first Friday in June and some major companies will be joining in on the festivities.
National Donut Day may sound like another made up holiday but it’s actually been here for a while. No, it’s not a holiday honoring local police. The holiday got started way back in 1938 by The Chicago Salvation Army. It was to honor the women or ‘doughnut girls’ who served along the front lines giving donuts to soldiers during WWI and WWII. The Salvation Army is just one of the many donut companies that will be giving away donuts to help celebrate the holiday.
Entenmann’s will be giving away thousands of free donuts. Along with the free donuts they will also be holding a special event in Times Square on Friday filled with free donuts and fun activities. Consumers all across the country will be able to enter a contest to win free donuts for a year! For every entry, a dollar will donated to Entenmann’s long-time charity partner Feeding America.
2. Dunkin’ Donuts
Because no donut holiday would be complete without a trip to Dunkin’ Donuts, of course the donut chain had to get in on the action. On Friday, Dunkin’ Donuts will offer a new vanilla cake batter donut that’s frosted with chocolate and topped with confetti sprinkles. Along with the new donut, Dunkin’ Donuts will offer donut lovers a free classic donut in the flavor of their choice with the purchase of any beverage.
3. Duck Donuts
On Friday, Duck Donuts customers can get a free donut with any purchase. While that sounds pretty simple, it’s the receipt you really want. All receipts that are printed on Friday will get a “Buy One Get One Free 1/2 Dozen” coupon attached. The brand has also already started the festivities on their facebook page. It’s called the “12 Days of Donuts.” The brand posts a picture of one of their classic donuts and every comment is eligible to win a dozen doughnuts.
4. Krispy Kreme
Krispy Kreme is keeping it real simple this year. Customers are able to get one free donut of their choosing. Sounds perfect!
5. The Salvation Army
To celebrate the 100th year since the Doughnut Girls’ debut, The Salvation Army is giving away donuts all day from open to close. You’re also encouraged to take a picture with your free donut and use the hashtag #GivingIsSweet.
6. Underwest Donuts
New York’s trendiest donut shop will be giving away a pretty sweet deal on Friday. They’ll be revealing their brand new donut flavor, the Caramel Corn Doughnut. On top of that, New Yorkers can go to the doughnuts carwash spot at 638 West 47 Street for a free sugared donut or they can get a mini glazed donut at their Penn Station location.
Where are you going to spend National Donut Day? Wherever it is, let’s hope you’ll have a freebie.
