Michelle Obama Is The Fitness Inspo You Need This Summer

The former First Lady is a very busy lady, but if she can find the time to stay healthy, you can too.

Michelle Obama took to Instagram to explain to her 14.6 million followers how she keeps motivated to stay fit.

Obama shared some workout photos and gave a little bit of insight into her White House workout routine.

“When I was in the White House, I often hosted bootcamp weekends for my close girlfriends. It didn’t matter that we were all at varying fitness levels. Our bootcamp weekends were a reminder that if we want to keep taking care of others, we need to take care of ourselves first. And even though I’m no longer at the White House, I’ve continued this tradition and want to share some photos. My girlfriends have been there for me through all kinds of life transitions over the years- including a pretty big one recently! -and we’ve done our best to stay healthy together. Whether it’s a bootcamp or a walk around the neighborhood, I hope you and your crew can find some time this summer to be healthy together.”

In what looks like a bootcamp session, Obama is holding a plank pose and showing off her impressively defined arms. Also pictured were some lunges and leg raises.

The crew included Sharon Malone, a well-known OBGYN, Obama’s former aide Susan Sher and Columbia University professor Elizabeth Alexander. The fitness squad was led by Obama’s trainer, Cornell McClellan. The group includes about a dozen old and new friends of varying ages.

Even without the recent post, Obama has always been a fitness guru with her toned figure and her Let’s Move! campaign, which encourages children to eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. In 2015, she released a video celebrating the fifth anniversary of the campaign challenging viewers at home to do the same.

She revealed to Ryan Seacrest in an interview a few years ago that she tries to work out for an hour and a half every morning doing cardio and weight training.

Obama also spoke about how her mother taught her about healthy living. She said, “I think my mother taught me what not to do. She put us first, always, sometimes to the detriment of herself. She encouraged me not to do that. She’d say being a good mother isn’t all about sacrificing; it’s really investing and putting yourself higher on your priority list. You can be a good mom and still work out, get your rest, have a career- or not. She encouraged me to find that balance.”

Obama encourages mental health as well as physical.

It’s all about finding what makes you happy and putting yourself first in order to be healthy.
