Shut Up & Listen: ‘The Princess Diaries 3’ Now Officially Has A Script

It has been 13 years since we last saw Mia Thermopolis riding mattresses down staircases in her Genovian palace, and the murmurs about a possible third Princess Diaries installment have become more akin to an all-out roar.

Meg Cabot, the author of the books the movies are based on, at last confirmed to Entertainment Weekly this week that a script for the third installment does in fact exist.

“I am not allowed to say,” she laughed when asked further about the third movie. “I would love to sit and talk about [it], but I can’t. I’m not allowed. But it’s really more following the movie than the books.”

She also explained that there is interest in making a third movie as a tribute to Garry Marshall, who directed the first two films and passed away in 2016. (Marshall spoke out about plans for filming the movie last before his death.)

Mandy Moore has also said that she would be interested in appearing in a cameo in the three-quel — so long as her character finally finds some form of redemption.

And remember, it may feel like this installment is coming years after it should have, but a queen is never late.
