Ready Or Not, Taylor Swift Dropped A New Song This A.M.

Regardless of my persistent pleas for a country album, Taylor Swift continues to push the “old Taylor is dead” narrative with her new song, “…Ready for It.”

The song features rap (yes, you read that right), a more electronic sound than the singer has previously explored, and a wistful chorus reminiscent of her “1989” and “Red” albums.

Tay dropped a teaser for the song  Saturday during the broadcast of the Alabama vs. Florida State college football game, and released the full song this morning (September 3) while many of us were literally and figuratively sleeping.

“A second glance into #reputation,” the 27-year-old singer tweeted this morning. “…ready for it?”

The lyrics to the chorus are below, and a startling sweet contrast to the forceful nature of the rest of the song. As for the rapping verses (there are several) Swift first addresses the reputation of the love interest in the song before turning to her own.

“In the middle of the night
In my dreams
You should see the things we do, baby
In the middle of the night
In my dreams
I know I’m gonna be with you so I’ll take my time
Are you ready for it?”

“…Ready for It?” is also the soundtrack for ABC network’s fall season promos, so regardless of your thoughts on the new song, expect to hear it many, many more times.
