The 69th Primetime Emmy Awards is airing this Sunday, honoring the best in the TV industry of the past year. It won’t just be honoring the familiar faces on TV, the Awards will also be celebrating the people you don’t see, like directors, writers, and designers. For one night, we’l be recognizing the shows and TV films that have dominating our screens. This year, the host is none other than talk show host Stephen Colbert, the host of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
The host always plays a major role in Awards show, they have to be that perfect balance of funny, but not irritating, laid-back, but serious when they need to be. Last year, with Jimmy Kimmel hosting, viewer stats hit a low point, while the most viewed Emmy Awards in history was when Neil Patrick Harris hit the stage.
Ever since the 2016 President Election, and amidst the recent natural disasters, hosts of recent ceremonies have incorporated into their speeches digs at the Presidential administration while others have raised awareness on national crises.
This is Stephen’s first time hosting a major Awards show. In the past, he’s hosted The Kennedy Center Honors. No matter what, Stephen is sure to give us a ceremony worth watching.
Check out what Stephen had to say in anticipation of the Awards below.
