The ‘Powerpuff Girls’ Reboot Is Getting A Little Bit Of #BlackGirlMagic

The Powerpuff Girls are getting a reboot and they’re adding some melanin. Cartoon Network decided to reboot its classic Powerpuff Girls and the network decided it was time to add a fourth hero to the infamous trio. Cartoon Network has announced that the voice for the new Powerpuff will be Toya Delazy.

Toya Delazy is a South-African singer, songwriter, rapper and producer. Delazy is actually no newbie to the Powerpuff world and has even worked with the show before. Delazy was tasked with the job of creating the theme song for the South-African version of the show back in 2016.

“I have always dreamed of being the voice of a cartoon character,” Delazy said in a statement. “Never did I think I would be recording a voice-over as the new Powerpuff Girl for Cartoon Network, though!”

Delazy, like many of us, grew up watching PPG and it is definitely exciting to see this welcome addition to the Powerpuff team.

“In a nutshell, Cartoon Network was my childhood,” Delazy said. “The shows were always quirky, expressive, creative and cool! I have always appreciated how creative the channel is, even to this day.”

“Watching Cartoon Network really opened my mind as a child, and for me the channel still represents creativity in all aspects of the word. The shows are bold, unexpected, energetic and exciting—definitely a brand that I can identify with and relate to.”

Turner Broadcasting Senior Vice President Jamie Ondarza said that they are excited to have Delazy as the voice behind the newest heroine.

“Toya Delazy is definitely a perfect fit for the Powerpuff Girls brand,” Ondarza said. “She is confident, bubbly and quirky; all the values that we are familiar with, love and appreciate. We have a lot of surprises up our sleeves.”
