iOS 11 came with a bunch of fun, new features that also make our iPhone experiences easier. But there is one feature that every woman should have enabled it’s this one: the phone allows you to place an emergency SOS call while your phone is locked.
If you knew about the old SOS feature, you knew that you could call 911 from a locked phone, but that required you to dial the number or tell Siri to do it, which could alert your attacker in a potentially dangerous situations and sometimes didn’t work properly.
Apple has our back with this new update. Pressing the wake/sleep button quickly five times not only alerts emergency services, it also provides a three-second countdown starts that’ll make a noise while its dialing. You have the option of turning the sound feature off if you don’t want to alert your possible attacker, which can be a good idea.
To enable this feature, just go into your settings and tap the emergency SOS tab. From there, you switch on auto call. You can even add in emergency contacts that’ll alert the people in your life that you’re in an emergency situation.
This is for if you ever feel unsafe while walking home alone at night or if you ever just find yourself in an uncomfortable situation.
The new feature is great, but limited to only certain countries for the time being, including the U.S, Japan, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Russia, Spain and the U.K.
I’m sure Apple will continue to update this feature to be included all over the world, because you can’t put a price on safety.
