This Twitter Thread Encouraging Women To Ask Their Crushes Out Is Everything

Asking someone out on a date for the first time is a stomach-clenching, heart-fluttering experience. Even watching Sookie ask Jackson out on Gilmore Girls is enough to make me glance away from whatever I’m doing and stare at the TV, paralyzed with a swelling of hope and fear for her, despite knowing full well what the outcome will be.

London-based sex and relationships blogger Oloni is combatting all of our inner urge to play it safe by encouraging her female followers to ask out their crushes — and send her the receipts.

“Ladies ask that guy you fancy out on a date and tweet me a screen shot of his response,” she wrote.

Her tweet has amassed over 11,000 likes and thousands of responses as women hold their breath and press “send.”

Some people are breathing enormous sighs of relief, and can’t wait to start planning their dates.

Others put themselves out there and it went… less well.

Whether successful or rejected, now these women know whether their crushes are unrequited or not, and can move on with their lives accordingly. The Twitter thread has become a platform for an outpouring of support as strangers cheer each other on and comfort each other when it doesn’t go as hoped.

As for Olani, she wrote on her Instagram that she dreamed up the challenge to “help make women more confident within themselves,” and “remind them that it’s 2017, women can make the first move.”
