As if waiting for Stranger Things 2 wasn’t enough, Netflix decided to torture us some more. If you were worried about season two being the finale, think again. It’s very likely that a season three is already underway.
Word of warning: spoilers ahead!
Before an angry mob of fact checkers and fans come for my head, season three was already confirmed by Atlanta Filming way back in August. This is likely due to to the fact that the kids will have their hands full on other projects. Judging by the timing of it all, we might not get Stranger Things 3 until 2019. Fans can expect another time skip between season two and three as well.

Come on, you can’t do this to me! It was hard enough to stay spoiler free for season two. It’s hard to imagine what the writers will throw into Stranger Things 3, but that’s not stopping us one bit. Fans are already chatting and swapping theories about the next season. Personally, I doubt that the kids saw the last of the Upside Down.
“They’ve shut the door on the Mind Flayer, but not only is it still there in the Upside Down, it’s very much aware of the kids, and particularly Eleven,” Ross Duffer said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “It had not encountered her and her powers until that final episode. Now it knows that she’s out there.”
As for the cast, it’s difficult to say who will be staying for the long haul. I highly doubt they all signed off on strict contracts like the Harry Potter cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Millie Bobby Brown, the actress that plays Eleven, recently agreed to star in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Despite appearing on television shows in the past, this will mark her first film role.
As these kids grow older, their schedules are bound to get more hectic. As much as we might love the original cast, expect some dramatic plot twists if some of these actors sign off of Stranger Things. That brings us to a very important question: when is the series finale? According to Vulture, it’s unlikely that the Duffer brothers are ending Stranger Things anytime soon.
“We’re thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out,” Ross Duffer admitted. Despite the news of a possible season four, the brothers want to focus on their current project and look to the future afterwards.

If you’re sad to hear that news, don’t worry too much. The Duffer brothers have more tricks and ideas up their sleeve for future projects. They currently have an idea on another sci-fi project, but Ross reveals that it would be “tonally very different,” whatever that means.
“I think the goal right now is to focus on elevated genre with a focus on characters,” Matt Duffer told Vulture. “And no more kids on bikes.”
Until then, try not to binge Stranger Things 2 too fast. Just sit back and enjoy the show.
