How To Survive The Holidays After A Breakup

Breakup season is slowly creeping back into our lives. According to Facebook statistics, November and December are the most popular months of the year to end relationships. Apparently, the jolly holiday spirit is not enough to help some couples survive.

Why people get the sudden urge to thrust their partners into a seemingly never-ending bout of depression during the most festive time of the year, we’re not sure. Maybe they were scared that things were getting too serious or maybe they didn’t want to meet the dam. Maybe they were just a bum and wanted to get out of buying a present. Whatever the reasoning, what matters is that you don’t let your breakup dictate your happiness throughout the holidays.

1. Prepare for questions.

Your family is gonna be hella nosy and want to know what happened, especially if you were in a serious relationship for a long time. While there’s no way around that, you can still plan out a response so that you’re not caught completely off guard, awkwardly stuttering and scratching your head as you fish for a clapback. Keep it short and sweet. You don’t need to go into detail about what happened. A simple “things didn’t work out” will suffice, and if they keep pestering you, just make it clear that they need to mind their business and keep it moving.

2.  Make sure you have a support system.

Go out. Get thotty. Your girlfriends are there to remind you that life does indeed go on after a breakup. This season is about appreciating ALL of your loved ones, not just your significant other. Use this time to remind yourself that you have other people in your life that love you and will always be there, unlike the d*ckhead who dumped you just so his broke a** could avoid having to buy you the Christmas present you deserve.

3. Get a new hobby.

There’s gonna come a point when you’ll be fed up with drowning in your tears and withering away in bed. Find a new hobby. Cook. Exercise. Jump on a trampoline. Pole dance. Just do SOMETHING to distract yourself and keep that person off your mind. Once you put your all into something, you’ll find yourself thinking of them less and less often.

There is SO MUCH to be excited for during the holiday season. Pumpkin pie, eggnog, wine (lots and lots of wine!). Just remember to take care of yourself. At the end of the day, no one will ever have your back like you do. Spoil yourself and don’t feel guilty about it.
