Catt Sadler, who has risen to fame as a correspondent for E! News and Daily Pop, has quit her job after discovering that her male co-hosts earn more than double her salary for performing the exact same job, PEOPLE reports. Catt has not released the name of the host, but many speculate it to be Jason Kennedy.
Catt has worked with the network for over a decade, calling the gig “literally a dream job.” The host told PEOPLE that the decision was difficult and “required a lot of soul searching.”
Over the past year, Catt has taken on a significantly larger role working for the network, serving as a correspondent for various red carpet events in addition to her recurring role as the main host for several of the network’s most popular shows.
However, Catt ultimately decided that she could not continue ethically working with E! after she learned of the “massive disparity in pay” between her and her male co-host.
Catt stated that she was “informed and made aware that my male equivalent at the network who I started with the same year and have come up with doing essentially similar jobs, if not the same job, wasn’t just making a little bit more than me but was making double my salary and has been for several years.”
After confronting the network about the injustice, not only did E! refuse to pay Catt the difference, but their salary offer was “nowhere close, not even remotely close” to the salary that her male correspondent receives.
The wage gap continues to negatively impact women in the U.S., with the average white woman earning 79 cents for every dollar a white man makes, and black women earning 67 cents. The inequality deepens even further with other racial groups, however, with the average Hispanic woman earning merely 54 cents to every dollar a white man makes.
Catt committed a brave act by refusing to work with a company that who wasn’t willing to pay her an equal and fair wage. We hope this will set an example to other employers that women will not continue to tolerate unjust and unfair wage inequalities.
