‘Black Panther’ Has Sold More Presale Tickets Than Any Other Marvel Movie

|

Good luck trying to see Black Panther when it first comes out. Marvel’s first stand-alone black superhero movie is breaking presale ticket sale records like crazy. According to Deadline, Black Panther has ruthlessly beat out Marvel’s highest presale movie Captain America: Civil War. According to Fandango, Black Panther topped Captain America‘s presale record in 24 hours after tickets were released.

Deadline says that Disney and Marvel’s executives are expecting Black Panther to gross $80 million to $85 million during its opening weekend. But with its presale ticket numbers, it may gross a lot more than expected.

The highest grossing Marvel movie released in February is Deadpool, which brought in $132.4 million, but it may not be the highest-grossing for long. Black Panther is set to premiere on February 16.

Lupita Nyong’o, who stars in the movie, couldn’t even get her hands on advance tickets. She wanted to go see it in theaters on top of seeing the premiere. Unfortunately, she waited 15 minutes, and the presale was sold out, and she couldn’t purchase any.

Fredrick Joseph started a GoFundMe to raise money to send 300 kids from New York City to see the movie for free. He tweeted his GoFundMe link saying that it’s essential for kids to see themselves represented on the big screen.

Since his tweet, he has raised over $30,000 with an original goal of $10,000. The excess money will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Harlem.

If you haven’t seen the trailer, then you’re missing out. There is a reason why this movie is the hottest ticket of 2018.

If you noticed that is Kendrick Lamar in the movie trailer’s song. Kendrick is producing the entire film’s soundtrack. The lead single for the soundtrack features Kendrick and SZA and not surprising it is a total bop.

Black Panther is already breaking records, and it’s not even out yet. I think movie execs have severely underestimated how much money this movie will pull in. The hype surrounding Black Panther is saying the obvious, movies with African-American leads sell.
