Former President Barack Obama may not be in the Oval Office anymore, but that doesn’t mean Obama isn’t busy. Him and his wife Michelle Obama are busy with their new venture, the Obama Foundation.
But Obama made time to do something very special for a lucky couple, officiate their wedding. The couple, Dana Remus and Brett Holmgren aren’t strangers to Obama they both worked closely with him during his Presidency and after his eight years were over.Washingtonian
Remus worked as the general counsel for the Obama Foundation and part of Obama’s personal office. Her husband, Holmgren worked with Obama during his presidency as the special assistant to the president and as the senior director for intelligence programs on the National Security Council Staff.
Remus and Holmgren were married Sunday, January 21 at District Winery with only 120 people in attendance. Obama’s appearance was a surprise to the guests because they didn’t want the news to spread that Obama would be there. Only a few close family members were told beforehand according to the Washingtonian.Washingtonian
“We had decided to invite him because he was such an important part of our lives, we asked him if he could attend the wedding,” Holmgren told the Washingtonian. “We also asked him if he could officiate, and he was intrigued with the idea.”
The couple wasn’t sure if Obama was going to be able to attend their wedding let alone officiate it until the day of. They had a back up officiate on hold but thankfully didn’t need to use them.
Obama was also a signer on the couple’s marriage certificate. He didn’t stay for the reception because he didn’t want to take away from the couple’s big night. Obama if you’re reading this feel free to officiate my future wedding too, thanks in advance.
