Galentine’s Day is right around the corner ladies and we’ve got some great gift ideas to give to your BFF and girlfriends when you celebrate on February 13.
No, you didn’t miss a day on your National Holidays calendar, but if you’re not a Parks & Recreation watcher then you’ve probably never heard of Galentine’s Day. That’s okay though because technically, it’s not a real holiday. But after you learn what Galentine’s Day means and who it’s for, we’re sure you’ll want to celebrate this fabulous holiday every year moving forward.
Galentine’s Day originated from Parks & Rec‘s main character Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler. The day was created by Knope to celebrate her BFFs and girlfriends. She decided Galentine’s Day should be celebrated the day before Valentine’s Day, which is perfect. You can celebrate your friendships before V-Day wreaks havoc on your and your friends love lives.
In Knope’s own words: “Oh it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.”
And thus we have Galentine’s Day. I mean, it’s kind of crazy that it took so long to have an amazing holiday dedicated to showing just how much we love and appreciate our girlfriends. We depend so much on our girlfriends to help us get through life and function every day, it’s about time there was a holiday to celebrate them.
Despite being completely fictitious, Galentine’s Day is slowly becoming celebrated more and more each year since it’s non-existent origin. This isn’t the first time Parks & Rec created a fake holiday, hello Treat Your Self Day. We definitely encourage you to embrace Galentine’s Day now that you know what it really means and we’re sure your girlfriends will appreciate the love.
