Get Ready To Be Obsessed With Olympian Teenage Snowboard Sensation Chloe Kim

The Winter Olympics are almost here so it’s time to get acquainted with all the star athletes who will be representing America like snowboard sensation Chloe Kim.

This is Kim’s first Olympic games, but she has tons of experiencing under her belt at the mere age of 17. If it weren’t for the age restriction, she would have competed in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, but 14-years-old was too young to go for the gold.

But now Kim is eligible and ready to tear up the half pipe in Pyeongchang. Whatever events she competes in are going to be a must watch. She is the first and only woman to land back-to-back 1080 spins during a competition. Kim completed the perfect double 1080’s at this past year’s U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix during the Superpipe competition.

To complete one 1080 spin Kim has to gain enough speed to push herself up a 22-foot-high wall to gain enough air to turn her body three full circles. Then she landed correctly and did it again. Her double 1080’s earned her a perfect score of 100 becoming the first woman to do so and only the second ever to earn. The other snowboarder to earn a perfect is Shaun White.

She has landed the back-to-back 1080’s multiple times since her perfect score. Most recently she landed clean 1080’s at this year’s X Games Superpipe. Kim didn’t earn a perfect score, but it was pretty close.

This isn’t the first time Kim has broken records at competitions. In 2015 she was the youngest to ever win gold in the Superpipe event at the Winter X Games at just 14 years old. The next year she became the first person under the age of 16 to win three gold medals at the Winter X Games, which also meant she became the first person ever to win back-to-back gold medals in the Superpipe.

Kim began snowboarding at 4-years-old and started competing at 6. According to her Olympic profile, she spent third and fourth grade studying in Geneva, Switzerland and trained on the Swiss Alps during the time.

There is no doubt that Kim won’t be amazing and earn a spot on the podium during this year’s Olympics. Click through the gallery at the top to see her best Instagrams.
